The labour market in January 2020

Registered unemployment was 4,8% in January 2020 and increased from 4,3% in December and up from 3,0% in January 2019. There were in average 8.808 unemployed in January 2020 or up with 789 from December 2019.

Unemployment by gender:

The unemployment by men increased in January with 0,6 percent point from December and by 0,4 percent point for women and was 5,0% for men and 4,6% for women in January 2020.

The unemployment by young people:

There were 1.205 young, aged 18-24 years unemployed in January 2020 or up from 1.010 in December 2019.

The long term unemployed:

There were 1.771 long term unemployed (over 1 year) in January 2020, or up from 1.648 in December 2019.

Open vacancies:

There were 120 new incoming open vacancies in January 2020 or up from 68 new incoming open vacancies in December 2019.

Foreign workers:

There were in total 120 work permits (all types of work permits) issued in January 2020 or up from 93 in December 2019. There were 25 foreign service companies registered to Directorate of Labour in January 2020. These foreign service companies employed 98 workers in January 2020.

There were 18 temporary-work agencies registered to Directorate of Labour in January 2020.

These temporary-work agencies hired out 605 workers in January 2020.

The unemployment forecast for
February 2020:

It is expected that the unemployment in February 2020 will increase and be between 4,8% and 5,0%.
