The labour market in January 2018

Registered unemployment was 2,4% in January 2018 or up with 0,2 percent point from December 2017 and down from 3,0% in January 2017.  In January 2017 the unemployment was especially high due to strikes within the fisheries.

There were in average 4.220 unemployed in January 2018 or up with 304 from December 2017.

Unemployment by gender:

The unemployment by men was 2,3% in January 2018, or up with 0,2 percent point from December 2017.  The unemployment by women was 2,5% in January 2018 or up with 0,2 percent point from December 2017.

The unemployment by young people:

There were 593 young, aged 18-24 years unemployed in January 2018 or up from 490 in December 2017.

The long term unemployed:

There were 911 long term unemployed (over 1 year) in January 2018, or up from 869 in December 2017.

Open vacancies:

There were 122 new incoming open vacancies in January 2018, but in December 2017 there were 71 new incoming open vacancies.

Foreign workers:

There were in total 133 work permits (all types of work permits) issued in January 2018 but 100 in December 2017. There were 51 foreign service companies registered to Directorate of Labour in January 2018.

These foreign service companies employed 368 workers in January 2018.

There were 24 Temporary-work agencies registered to Directorate of Labour in January 2018.

These Temporary-work agencies hired out 1.398 workers in January 2018.

The unemployment forecast for February 2018:

It is expected that the unemployment in February 2018 will decrease and be between 2,2% and 2,4%.
