The labour market in February 2018

Registered unemployment was 2,4% in February 2018 or the same as in January 2018 and down from 2,9% in February 2017.   In February 2017 the unemployment was especially high due to strikes within the fisheries.

There were in average 4.298 unemployed in February 2018 or up with 78 from January 2018.

Unemployment by gender:

The unemployment by men was 2,4% in February 2018, or up with 0,1 percent point from January 2018.  The unemployment by women was 2,5% in February 2018 or the same as in January 2018.

The unemployment by young people:

There were 599 young, aged 18-24 years unemployed in February 2018 or up from 593 in January 2018.

The long term unemployed:

There were 926 long term unemployed (over 1 year) in February 2018, or up from 911 in January 2018.

Open vacancies:

There were 102 new incoming open vacancies in February 2018, but in January 2018 there were 122 new incoming open vacancies.

Foreign workers:

There were in total 198 work permits (all types of work permits) issued in February 2018 but 133 in January 2018. There were 48 foreign service companies registered to Directorate of Labour in February 2018. These foreign service companies employed 370 workers in February 2018.

There were 27 Temporary-work agencies registered to Directorate of Labour in February 2018.

These Temporary-work agencies hired out 1.444 workers in February 2018.

The unemployment forecast for March 2018:

It is expected that the unemployment in March 2018 will decrease and be between 2,1% and 2,3%.
